Neko Case – Liberty Hall – April 5th
As we entered Liberty Hall the stage was set for the opener Imaad Wasif, accompanied solely by his drummer, delivering a dynamic duo performance from the very first note, they held the audience captive, . Their raw energy and masterful musicianship set the perfect tone for the evening ahead.
Neko Case and her band took to the stage, launching into the familiar songs like “I Wish I Was the Moon,” a track that had graced the airwaves on your country alternative show w/ Paul Chandler on 92.9 The Bull. The audience watched as Case led her band through a journey spanning her illustrious 25-year solo career, culminating in the finale of their tour for the “Wild Creatures” album, a retrospective compilation that showcased Case’s evolution as an artist.
Throughout the performance, Case treated the crowd to renditions of iconic tracks from the compilation, each song infused with emotion and storytelling. From the haunting ballad “Deep Red Bells,” which delved into the chilling narrative of the Green River Killer, to the gentle “Calling Cards,” a heartfelt tribute to her bandmates and fellow travelers on her musical journey, Case’s performance resonated deeply with the audience.
Case also unveiled two new songs, offering a glimpse into her forthcoming album slated for release in 2025.
During the show, Case paused to acknowledge the fans who had traveled from Kansas City to attend the show to dedicate her song Lady Pilot to her fans fro KC.
